Pachuca falls to Pumas in Mexican final

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Jose Francisco Torres fell short of becoming the second American to lift the Mexican league title within two years after Pachuca tied UNAM Pumas, 2-2, in overtime of the second leg of the final and fell, 3-2, on aggregate.

New Mexico product Edgar Castillo, now with Club America, helped Santos with the Clausura 2008 crown. Torres, a 21-year-old Texan who has been called up for next week's U.S. World Cup qualifying games, played the full 90 of the first leg against Pumas and entered in the 73rd minute of the second leg, which went into overtime after regulation time ended with Pumas leading 2-1 and the aggregate scored tied 2-2.

Pachuca goalkeeper Miguel Calero allowed a weak shot from substitute Pablo Barrera through his hands in the 107th minute to send the title to Pumas.

Pachuca midfielder Cristian Gimenez, recently called up by the Argentine national team, scored twice in regulation time, on a penalty kick and a free kick. Paraguayan Dante Lopez struck for Pumas in between Gimenez's goals.

Pachuca's Javier Munoz was ejected in the 90th minute for a foul on Martin Bravo, forcing his team to play short-handed during the 30 minutes of overtime.
