Five-time Libertadores Cup champion Boca Juniors needed to beat Bolivar of Bolivia by two goals on Thursday to be certain of qualifying for the knockout stage of the South American club championship, and it breezed into the next stage with a 7-0 win in Buenos Aires.

Playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme, on loan from Spain's Villarreal, had a hand in Boca's first two goals. Rodrigo Palacio and Bruno Marioni both scored twice for Boca, which had managed only four goals in its first five games. Boca and Velez Sarsfield were the only Argentine teams to reach the round of 16. River Plate, Boca's archrival, Banfield and Gimnasia y Esgrima all failed to advance.

Toluca also went through in Group 7 with a 3-0 victory over Cienciano of Peru, leaving all three Mexican clubs still alive in the competition. Necaxa qualified earlier in the week, while Club America had previously clinched a berth in the round of 16.

Brazil will send five teams to the final 16: Sao Paulo, Gremio, Santos, Flamengo and Parana. Only Santos of the 16 qualifiers finished with six wins in six games.

Defensor Sporting and Nacional (Uruguay), Caracas FC (Venezuela), Libertad (Paraguay), Cucuta (Colombia) and Colo Colo (Chile) also advanced. Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru were shut out of the round of 16.
