Galaxy adds 'Eski' to its attack

[MLS] The Galaxy isn't waiting for the arrival of David Beckham to accelerate its playoff pursuit.

Striker Alecko Eskandarian, whose career has been marred by injuries since he helped D.C. United win the 2004 MLS Cup, is changing locker rooms at Home Depot Center. Chivas USA has traded him to Los Angeles in exchange for a conditional 2010 draft pick and allocation money.

To make room on its roster the Galaxy terminated the contract of midfielder Josh Tudela, a 2007 second-round draft pick out of Indiana whose stock had dropped since Bruce Arena took over as head coach last August.

Arena believes Eskandarian fills needs for the Galaxy, which has drastically cut down on its goals allowed total from last year and is still revamping its offense.

"He's a player with a lot of versatility," says Arena of the left-sided attacker who is playing his seventh MLS season and turns 26 next week. "He can be a valuable asset to our team."
