The Chicago Fire will play in the Premier Development League final for the first time since finishing as runner-up in 2003 when it travels to face the Ventura County Fusion in Saturday's final. The Fire edged the Cary Clarets, 2-1, in overtime in one semifinal, while the Fusion pounded the Bradenton Academics, 6-1, in the other.
Harvard All-American Andre Akpan had the game-winner for the Fire in the fifth minute of overtime.
Anthony Hamilton scored his 10th and 11th goals of the season, and another former Chivas USA player, Rodrigo Lopez, and UC Santa Barbara's Danny Barrera each added a goal and two assists as the Fusion (11-2-7) rolled to its most important win in its history by the largest margin in club history.
