[GERMANY] Mainz fired Norwegian Jorn Andersen on Monday, making him the first Bundesliga coach to ever be fired prior to the start of the season.

Andersen, 46, led Mainz back to the Bundesliga but won't get to coach it in the top level after being dismissed after the club's 2-1 loss to fourth division Lubeck Friday in the German Cup.

"We evaluated the situation, discussed it internally and explained in frank terms to Jorn Andersen what the philosophy of the club was," said Mainz president Harald Strutz. "At the end of these discussions, we concluded that what our vision was and his was not compatible."

U-19 coach Thomas Tuchel will be in charge when Mainz opens the league season against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
