[OFF THE POST] Rene Simoes, coach of Brazilian second division club Portuguesa, handed in his resignation after officials of the club came into the locker room with guns on their belts and threatened the players after a loss.
The officials, accompained by bodyguards, berated the players after losing, 2-1, to Vila Nova and jeopardizing the club's promotion chances.
"They were four armed men and one appeared to be the boss," said Simoes, who is famous for coaching Jamaica at the 1998 World Cup.
The leader of the gang was identified as Antonio Jose Vaz Pinto, a member of the club's executive council.
A statement on the club's official Web site read: "Catching everyone by surprise... Mr Antonio Jose Vaz Pinto insulted the players and technical staff, showing a complete lack of control."
