In the first ever Milan derby played in August, Inter Milan trounced AC Milan 4-0. After an even start, Inter unlocked AC Milan's defense with some slick passing around the box that freed Thiago Motta to curl a shot past Marco Storari to make it 1-0 Inter. Gennaro Gattuso then brought new striker Samuel Eto'o down in the box to produce a penalty and give Inter a 2-0 lead.

Gattuso was sent off later in the half for another reckless tackle. And Inter took advantage of Gattuso's absence.
