United Loses Goalkeeper Wicks

News keeps getting worse for D.C. United. On Sunday, goalkeeper Josh Wicks dislocated his left shoulder while attempting to punch away a corner against San Jose. In addition, an MRI revealed that Wicks injured his knee on the play, spraining his medical collateral ligament. The injuries will sideline Wicks four to six weeks, or the remainder of the MLS regular season.

Back-up goalkeeper Milos Kocic is now scheduled to start for the remainder of the season. United cannot sign another replacement for Wicks because the season's roster deadline has passed. However, under league guidelines, a long-term injury to a goalkeeper allows a club to add another goalie from the MLS player pool. This yet-to-be-determined player should back up Kocic in league play while new signing Bill Hamid is available for Champions League matches only.
