After Argentina qualified for the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Uruguay, Diego Maradona let fly with the sort of sexually charged and defiant gestures that have defined much of his relationship with the press. "You take it up the a**," he said, scanning the locker room before adding, "if the ladies will pardon the expression."

Maradona dedicated the triumph to the Argentina fans, to his daughters Dalma and Giannina, and to his squad. "But certain people who have not supported me, and you know who you are, can keep sucking," he said, as translated by The Guardian. Maradona then gestured to the TV cameras outside the dressing room, grabbing his genitals with both hands. In stark contrast, Uruguay's manager, Oscar Tabárez, praised his own team and his opponents.

During Maradona's reign as coach, the press' criticism of Maradona has become more candid, especially about the way personal feelings blur with professional action. On Wednesday, for example, Maradona's son-in-law, Sergio Aguero, was suspiciously absent from the bench.
