Dempsey and Howard fall in Europa League

Dempsey's pass sprung Senegalese Diomansy Kamara, who was taken down for a penalty and converted it himself to give Fulham the lead at Roma, but things later fell apart for the Cottagers, who had two players ejected and lost, 2-1.

The loss left Fulham in third place, two points behind Roma and four behind FC Basel.

Howard's Everton lost at home to Benfica, 2-0, and fell into second place, two points behind the Lisbon club.

There are two games to play. The top two teams in each group advance to the next phase, where they are joined by the third-place teams from each of the eight UEFA Champions League groups.
