The ESP program, launched in 1997, was an invitation-only showcase camp, modeled after the major basketball camps. Players trained and competed in front of professional and college scouts and learned about college programs and professional paths, including MLS's Generation adidas. It started as a boys-only program but a girls program was held in recent years.
For a number of years, Juergen Klinsmann was involved in the administration and operation of the camp.
National team players who attended the camp include Jozy Altidore and Jonathan Spector.
