Steven Goff reports that the Columbus Crew wants Argentine playmaker
Guillermo Barros Schelotto, the 2008 MLS MVP, to agree to a salary cut of more than 50 percent. The 36-year-old, who in 2009 scored 12 goals and assisted on three (and scored twice in one playoff game), earned $775,000 in 2009. In 2008, he earned $375,000. Goff says Schelotto wants to stay in MLS, but after receiving the Crew's latest offer of less than $300,000 in base salary for 2010, will apparently weigh two offers from Argentina or asked to be traded to another MLS club -- while negotiating with the Crew.
