Gauchos tie program record with 17th win
November 23rd, 2009 8:30AM

[SAN DIEGO-UC SANTA BARBARA 0-1] Senior David Walker''s goal in the 44th minute gave UC Santa Barbara a 1-0 win at No. 11 seed San Diego in an NCAA Tournament second-round game at Torero Stadium on Sunday evening. With the win, UCSB improved to 17-4-2 and tied a school record for most wins in a season, matching the program best set by the 2006 National Championship team.

With just two minutes remaining in the half, Luis Silva won a 50-50 pass at midfield and passed the ball forward to Barrera. The sophomore played the ball over the USD defense to Walker, who trapped the ball with his head before firing a shot to the bottom left corner of the Torero goal, giving UCSB a 1-0 lead.
