[MAKING A LIST] Jermain Defoe scored five goals in the second half of Tottenham's 9-1 win over Wigan on Sunday. Here's a look at the great scoring feats in English history, including video of the top-level league record set in 1937 ...

5 goals: Record for English Premier League goals in a game. Defoe tied the record held by Andy Cole (for Manchester United in 9-0 win over Luton Town in 1995) and Alan Shearer (for Newcastle in 8-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in 1999)

7 goals: Record for English top-level league goals in a game. Arsenal's Ted Drake scored all seven goals in a 7-1 win at Aston Villa in 1937. He'd claim he scored an eighth goal that scored the goal line but was not awarded.

Ted Drake's scoring record:

9 goals: Record for English FA Cup goals in a game. Ted MacDougall scored nine goals for Bournemouth in an 11-0 win over Margate in the first round of the FA Cup in 1971.

10 goals: Record for English league goals in a game. Joe Payne scored 10 goals for Luton Town in a 12-0 win over Bristol Rovers in 1936 in the Football League's old Third Division South.
