[AMERICANS ABROAD]Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard was credited with nine saves and was yellow-carded as he helped his team, which is near the relegation zone in the English Premier League, advance to the Europa League knockout stage with a 1-0 win at AEK Athens on Wednesday.

Diniyar Bilyaletdinov scored the game's only goal in the sixth minute, which was enough for a victory to clinch an Everton second-place finish behind Benfica in Group I and a spot in the final 32 with one game left to play.

Everton, which sits in 16th place in the English Premier League, had won just once in 11 previous games in all competitions.

Howard, who made a fine diving save on a long-range Panagiotis Tachtsidis shot late in the first half, was cautioned in the 56th minute.
