[AWARDS] Brazilians Marta and Cristiane, Germans Inka Grings and Birgit Prinz and England's Kelly Smith are the five finalists for the 2009 FIFA World Women's Player of the Year award.

Marta, Cristiane and Smith all played in the first-year WPS in 2009, but no Americans from the new women's league were among the finalists despite the U.S. national team's 7-0-1 record and 1-0 win over Germany in Augsburg.

The winner will be announced on Dec. 21 in FIFA.

Selections are made by national team coaches and players from around the world.
