[OFF THE POST] Florida firefighter Lt. Robert Combs resigned after the North Port Fire Department discovered he had taken a ladder truck to the youth soccer game he was coaching while on duty at the fire station, skipped an emergency call, and pressured other firefighters to cover for him, according to the Herald Tribune.

Combs, a 15-year veteran, also got in trouble for neglecting to tell dispatch where the truck was. Fellow firefighter Frank Bellina, who informed Combs of the call, was fired for reportedly encouraging Combs to stay behind while he and firefighter Timothy Kirsch responded.

Wrote Kirsch in an e-mail two days after the incident: "I did not agree with the decision, but seeing as we were already out of our response area, did not have time to waste to run back to the soccer field from the parking lot to argue with the Lt. about going on the call."
