[ARGENTINA] Gabriel Funes, the 18-year-old Texas product who won "2008 Sueno MLS," scored for River Plate in his third appearance for the club, a 2-0 win over Tigre in the final game of the Apertura 2009 season.
Funes left the FC Dallas youth program after winning the Univision TV reality show tryout for his native Argentina to try out for River Plate.
River Plate holds the record for most Argentine titles but struggled this season and finished 13th. But it won its last two games of the season and Funes started in both victories after debuting as a second-half sub in a 3-1 loss to Velez Sarsfield Dec. 13 in the previous game.
Funes immigrated to Texas from Argentina with his family at age 10.
