Stanford's O'Hara named Women's Player of the Year

[SOCCER AMERICA AWARDS] Stanford's Kelley O'Hara, who led the nation in goals (26) and points (65) and shattered school season records in both categories, is the 2009 Soccer America Women's Player of the Year. The senior helped the Cardinal finish the regular season with a perfect record and No. 1 ranking in the Soccer America Women's Top 25.

In the NCAA Tournament, O'Hara had assists on both goals in both of the Cardinal's first two games and had two goals in the quarterfinals and the first goal in the semifinals against UCLA, but it all went wrong for her in the final.

The last game of her college career ended prematurely when she was sent off for two yellow cards -- her first two cards of the season -- and the Cardinal had to play the last quarter of an hour against North Carolina with 10 players.

O'Hara, who is majoring in science, technology, and society, with a focus in environmental engineering and product design, is in the U.S. women's national team camp at the Home Depot Center.

She is the second Stanford player to be named the Soccer America Women's Player of the Year. Julie Foudy won the award in 1991.
