Auction to benefit Akers' horse rescue

Women's Professional Soccer will auction off game-day items from its inaugural season over the next month to benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue, which has sustained heavy water damage from flooding in Georgia.

The farm was founded by women's great Michelle Akers to protect, heal and shelter hurting, unwanted and problem horses.

They have been kept safe at nearby stables as temporary quarters and estimates at repairs range upwards of $50,000.

WPS's annual MVP Award is named the Michelle Akers Player of the Year Award.
