Everton, which signed Landon Donovan on loan from the Los Angeles Galaxy, is a club in trouble. It has slumped to a tie for 15th place in the English Premier League, only two points out of the relegation zone, and its has eight players injured and two headed to the African Nations Cup in January.
Manager David Moyes is on the lookout for players. Problem is, he'll have to do it on the cheap. He has no money to buy players on the January transfer market. "The financial situation hasn't changed," says Moyes, "but I need to get new players in now. I've got one in and I'm hoping to bring in another two or three because it has got to the point where I can't keep waiting for the injured players to return."
Moyes had to call up graduates from Everton's academy program for its UEFA Cup game last week, but he doesn't want to have to rely on them for the Premier League battles that lie ahead.
