Gary Megson never had a chance at Bolton Wanderers. He was fired on Wednesday and fans were happy see him go. Wrote Dave Hadfield, "They were dancing in the streets of Bolton yesterday. The icy pavements were suddenly covered with gold, bluebirds swooped over Doffcocker Lodge and lambs gambolled on the moors. Welcome to a town in mourning for its football manager."

Megson, whose brother Neil has coached in the Seattle area for many years and whose father Don coached the NASL Portland Timbers, has kept Bolton in the EPL for two-plus seasons but was widely unpopular. Megson's final moves that doomed him were his substitutions in Bolton's 2-2 tie with Hull City on Tuesday.

Megson's reaction to Hull's first goal was to replace Croatian striker and fan favorite Ivan Klasnic with an unpopular defensive midfielder Gavin McCann. Megson was considered a public-relations disaster in Bolton, where they take their soccer very seriously.
