Freddy Adu has no regrets

Two and a half years after leaving MLS for Europe, Freddy Adu has no regrets despite his move to a succession of clubs on loan from Benfica after his initial stint at the Lisbon giant did not work out. "Football in Europe is No. 1," said Adu Thursday at his introduction to Greek club Aris, "and where it's at its best and this is why I decided to come to Europe."

At Aris, Adu joined U.S. striker Eddie Johnson, who is on loan from Fulham. Both players need strong showings at Aris to get back in the U.S. picture for the 2010 World Cup. "Right now, I'm only thinking about Aris and helping this team any way I can ...," said Adu. "Obviously, if I play well at Aris I have a better chance of going to the World Cup, but I'm only concentrating on playing well."

Adu hopes to get the call from Argentine coach Hector Cuper on Sunday when Aris hosts Greek league leader  Panathinaikos.
