Probably the longest of the long shots among the bidders for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups is Indonesia, and its bid could be dead as early as Tuesday, the deadline for each bidder’sgovernment to file a letter of support.

Indonesian Football Association deputy secretary general Dali Tahir pleaded with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Minister of Youth and Sport Andi Alifian Mallarangeng to support the bid.

Dali saidIndonesia needed the letter of support to explore a shared bid with Australia, which he said wants to be a strategic ally with Indonesia. “FIFA has confirmed the 2022 World Cup will be held inAsia,” added Dali. (Though that’s news to the USA and its bid, which faces its toughest competition from Australia.)
