[AMERICANS ABROAD] Freddy Adu made a rare start in a competitive game and only his third start in more than two years when he started for Aris in its 1-1 tie with Xanthi in the Greek Cup on Wednesday.

The start was the first for Adu, who played 67 minutes, since joining Aris in January on loan from Benfica.

He started only once for Belenenses last fall before it returned him to its Lisbon rival, Benfica.

Adu made only one start last season for French club Monaco, lasting 70 minutes in its 1-0 loss to Paris St. Germain in the French Cup.

In Wednesday's Greek Cup game, American teammate Eddie Johnson was a late substitute. The teams will play a replay next week.
