[CALIFORNIA WOMEN] Kelly Lindsey, who was briefly the coach of 2009 WPS champion Sky Blue FC and coached the University of California for one game last season, has been named the Golden Bears' associate coach.

Coach Neil McGuire's absence from the game against Santa Clara resulted in Kelly Lindsay, an assistant volunteer coach who had been with the Bears for only two weeks, running the show against Broncos.

Lindsey had taken over as the interim coach of WPS champion Sky Blue FC following the departure of Ian Sawyers only to suddenly quit herself shortly before the playoffs.

"We are excited to have Kelly join us as she is a very experienced coach and player who knows a lot about the game,” McGuire said. “She will be a tremendous addition to the staff because she brings a wealth of knowledge that will benefit the team greatly. Having played professionally in the WUSA and internationally for the U.S., Kelly will be able to help our players understand the day-to-day activities that lead to championships."

As the associate head coach, Lindsey will be responsible for coaching on the defensive end of the field. She will also be heavily involved with recruiting and player development in addition to liaising with strength and conditioning.
