First it was Englishman Kevin Souter, who made the jump from NAIA school Graceland University in Iowa to the Kansas City Wizards. Now, Canadian defender Edson Edward hopes to stick in MLS as a walk-on. In his case, the move from Graceland is a little farther.

Edward has played at right back and center back for FC Dallas in preseason and has impressed Coach Schellas Hyndman.

"He's very athletic and very strong," Hyndman said. "He seems to be improving in this environment, which is a great help." Edward appears to be battling free agent Steve Purdy for the f inal spot on the FCD backline.
