New Scotland coach Craig Levein has banned his players from drinking while on national team duty. The ban takes effect this week while the players are preparing for the Tennent's International Challenge friendly match against the Czech Republic. (Tennent's, a national team sponsor, is a brewery.)
Last year, Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor were kicked off the national team in the aftermath of "Boozegate" -- a marathon drinking session at the team's former hotel headquarters.
"Craig is a great believer that we are here to work," said assistant Peter Houston. "If we do well, we will be rewarde
d and then you can go off and have a drink if you want. The players understand that. Craig has a reputation for being firm but very fair and there wasn't a big deal made of it."
