Grant Wahl tours Red Bull Arena, the $200 million-plus home of the New York Red Bulls scheduled to open March 20 against Santos of Brazil (with Robinho), and comes away ... well, "a little breathless."
Wahl calls Red Bull Arena "the most advanced, state-of-the-art soccer stadium in the Western Hemisphere (at least until Chivas de Guadalajara's futuristic "volcano" stadium gets finished)." He points out it is a soccer stadium, not a soccer stadium that doubles as a concert venue, like the AEG stadiums.
Among the Harrison, N.J., stadium's attributes are its access (reached easily by Amtrak or PATH train), surroundings (Portuguese and Brazilian restaurants are nearby) and layout (players will enter the stadium from a midfield tunnel).
