England's injury woes on its backline are reaching the crisis point. Its first choices at right back (Glen Johnson) and left back (Ashley Cole) are injured. One of its two center backs (Rio Ferdinand) is sidelined. Its No. 2 choice at left back (Wayne Bridge) quit in the aftermath of revelations that John Terry -- the only healthy first teamer on the backline -- had slept with his former partner.

And now ... Manchester United defender Wes Brown's World Cup dream could be over after breaking a bone in his left foot. The injury leaves both England and Manchester United with problems. Brown has a suspected broken fifth metatarsal, He injured his foot during United's 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday.

Brown, 30, was injured in a challenge with Wolves' Matt Jarvis. He broke a metatarsal last season and missed part of this season with a hamstring injury.
