Mexico, which plays in the 2010 World Cup opener against South Africa on June, plans on bringing with it a very big good luck charm: a replica of the country’s beloved 21-foot tall, gold-plated Independence Monument known as "The Angel." After Mexico victories, fans flock to the century-old statue in the nation's capital, waving flags and running around it.
Shipping and diplomatic arrangements are underway to fly the angel to Johannesburg, where plans are to place it in a public space for fans to enjoy, according to Mexico's Tourism Secretary Alejandro Rojas.
