[AMERICANS ABROAD] On the final day of the first phase of Mexico's Torneo Bicentenario, California-born Miguel Angel Ponce debuted at left back for Guadalajara in 1-1 tie at Cruz Azul.
Because of callups to the Mexican national team and injuries, Chivas' first team has been depleted. It had already qualified for the playoffs, where it meets Morelia in the quarterfinals.
Ponce, who was born in Sacramento, spent the season with Chivas' sub-20 team.
He is the first American-born player to play for Chivas since Jesus Padilla, who is now with Chivas USA.
Other Californians in Chivas' Fuerzas Basicas system: Jaime Flores (Los Angeles), Daniel Navarro (Berkeley) and Mario Ledezma (Van Nuys).
