[EUROPA LEAGUE] Uruguayan Diego Forlan's second goal of the game four minutes before the end of overtime gave Atletico Madrid a 2-1 win over Fulham in the Europa League final Wednesday in Hamburg.

Clint Dempsey came on the second half, becoming the first American-born and -bred player to play in a European final.

Forlan had put Atletico ahead in the 32nd minute, but Simon Davies equalized for the Cottagers.

Dempsey replaced Bobby Zamora in the 55th minute.

National Soccer Hall of Famer Thomas Dooley, who was born in Germany to a U.S. serviceman, won the UEFA Cup with Schalke 04 in 1997.
