[SOUTH AFRICA] Fitness wasn't only reason star Benni McCarthy was left off host South Africa's 23-player squad for the World Cup.

According to South Africa press reports, McCarthy and goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez were dropped by Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira after the Brazilian was shown closed-circuit tape of them bringing women to their rooms at the team hotel after South Africa's friendly against Colombia on May 27, five days before final rosters were due.

When Parreira made his final cuts, he did not talk about individuals but commented that "We applied five principles when making our choices."

McCarthy apparently failed two principles: fitness and discipline.
