A 27-year-old man confessed to McAllen, Texas, police that he killed his 2-year-old stepdaughter because she wouldn't stop crying as he watched the USA-Ghana World Cup game on Saturday.

Hector Castro clenched his fist and hit the girl in the rib cage. He tried to revive her but couldn't. When the girl's mother returned, he said the girl was asleep. He later put a screw in the girl's mouth to make it took like she had choked to death.

Castro was formally charged with capital murder Monday evening in McAllen Municipal Court. Bond was set at $1 million.
