[REGION IV BOYS]Oregon's WSM Internationals were the only team to successfully defend their regional title at the U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., winning the under-19 boys crown with a 2-1 win over Rush Red Star. For more on the boys champions ...

WSM got two goals from Joseph Sleven and then held off Rush Red Star, one of two New Mexico teams to lose in the boys finals. It will compete in the 75th edition of the McGuire Cup at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships July 20-25 in Overland Park, Kan.

West Coast FC defeated Elite FC Gladiators, the other New Mexico finalists, on penalty kicks after their game ended 1-1. Guillermo Licona pulled West Coast even with five minutes to play in regulation.

West Coast was one of four Cal South Teams to win boys titles along with Santa Barbara SC (U-12), LAFC Chelsea (U-13) and Slammers FC (U-16)

The star of the boys finals was Connor Valenter, whose goal in the 89th minute pulled Oregon's ESUFC Liverpool Red even with Utah's Inter FC in the under-18 championship. He added two more goals in overtime for a hat trick and 4-2 win.
