[NIGERIA] It took less than a week for the Nigerian government to back down on its decision to dissolve the Super Eagles, the national soccer team.

President Goodluck Jonathan was so fed up with the national team after its quick exit from the World Cup -- losses to Argentina and Greece and tie with South Korea -- that he fired the leadership of the Nigerian Football Federation and prohibited all national teams from playing for two years.

But such a move was a clear violation of FIFA's rules that prohibit governmental interference in soccer matters.

On Monday, Jonathan backtracked, lifting the two-year ban after the Nigerian federation issued an "unreserved apology" for the Eagles' "dismal performance" at the World Cup and announced plans to "address numerous shortcomings evident in the management" of Nigerian soccer.

Goodluck? Maybe Mr. President needs a name change.
