[MLS] Chivas USA has signed forward Giancarlo Maldonado, who at the age of 28 is already Venezuela's all-time leading scorer, from Mexican First Division Atlante, where he has spent the last three seasons.

Maldonado, who scored 32 goals with Atlante, will be eligible for Chivas USA when the international transfer window opens on July 15.

“Giancarlo is an experienced striker with international experience and the ability to score goals," said Chivas USA coach Martin Vasquez. "He's going to make us a better team as we head into the second part of this season."

Maldonado has 19 goals in 48 appearances for Venezuela.

“I’m very happy to start this new phase in my career, and I’m very grateful to the Chivas USA organization for their trust and for giving me the opportunity,” said Maldonado. “I’m very excited to start playing.”

I sure hope he can help with the goal drought Chivas has been having. I've seen him play many times with Atlante, and he's an exciting player.

This is something the Americano Goats really need, a goal scorer/playmaker, to get out of their slump under Vasquez. Chivas needs to bring in some good talent in order to be able to compete against the other tenant in the HDC - LA Galaxy. Most Chivas fans are tired of losing to the arrogant Galaxy.
