Chilean Manuel Pellegrini, who was fired last June after one season as Real Madrid's coach, has been contacted by Mexican officials about taking over as Mexico coach to succeed Javier Aguirre, according to Pellegrini's agent Jesus Martinez.
Aguirre resigned following Mexico’s 3-1 loss to Argentina in the round of 16 at the World Cup. Pellegrini orchestrated the rise of small Spanish club Villarreal in 2004-09.
