Barcelona star Lionel Messi was included in the Argentina squad that will face Ireland on Aug. 11 in Dublin. The team will be coached by Sergio Batista, a coach of Argentina’s youth team. He was named interim coach on Tuesday following the dismissal of Diego Maradona.
The squad is an entirely European-based team with every starter from Argentina's quarterfinal game against Germany in the team except Nicolas Otamendi, who plays for Velez Sarsfield in Argentina.
Several players left off the World Cup team were named, including midfielders Jesus Datolo and Fernando Gago and forward Ezequiel Lavezzi.
