In the aftermath of former MLS midfielder and assistant coach John Spencer taking the head coaching job at 2011 expansion team Portland, there's speculation about what the rival Vancouver Whitecaps will do.

Incumbent Tietur Thordarson is in the final year of an extended contract. He won the USA D1 title in 2008 and reached the final last year. President Bob Lenarduzzi hired former D.C. United head coach Tom Soehn as director of soccer operations to get the organization, and the coaches, up to speed as to the ways and means of MLS.

Does this mean Thordarson might make the jump along with his team next year?
