Hartman's agent blasts MLS 'double standard'

The decision of MLS's disciplinary committee to fine New York Red Bulls star Thierry Henry $2,000 but not suspend him for kicking a dead ball that injured FC Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman did not sit well with Hartman's agent, Ron Waxman.

"The members of the disciplinary committee should be embarrassed and ashamed," Waxman told Steven Goff of the Washington Post's Soccer Insider. "It's either no punishment or there must be a suspension. I'm sorry to discover that they've established a double standard for the treatment of their marquee players as opposed to the treatment of their rank and file."

Henry escaped a suspension that will allow him to play in Friday's marquee match between the Red Bulls and Los Angeles Galaxy. Hartman is expected to be sidelined 2-3 weeks with a knee injury suffered when he touched the ball just as Henry struck it.

This was a horrendous act, and deserves 3-4 game suspension. The kick happened at least 10 seconds after the goal. It was not an attacker running in and blasting the ball into the net after the goal as it bounced out of the net. Everyone on both teams (except Henry) were already returning to midfield for the kickoff. Hartmann was walking over to the ball, just to retrieve it and Henry sprinted from 15 yards to whack it. He is a spoiled, over-indulged, indignant brat. His selfish play cost Hartmann his season, and maybe cost FC Dallas a shot at the championship. I will use the French term for Henry "Garbage".
