The Trinidad & Tobago government has launched an audit to determine what happened to the almost $13 million in funds allocated for work on stadiums used for the recently completed Under-17 Women's World Cup.

Sports minister Anil Roberts confirmed that FIFA almost pulled the plug on the competition 10 days before the start of the competition won by South Korea because venues were in a dilapidated condition.

Roberts said the money was misappropriated and "not spent on what it should have been spent on and we are going to solve that problem." A local contractor was hired at the last minute and worked 24 hours a day to get work done on the facilities for the tournament.
