[MLS] Substitute Eric Avila's goal in the 88th minute, one minute after entering the game, gave FC Dallas a 2-1 win over defending MLS Cup champion Real Salt Lake Saturday in the first leg of the Western Conference semifinals.

FC Dallas won for the ninth straight time over RSL at Pizza Hut Park in a match that saw both teams have players sent off in the second half -- first RSL playmaker Javier Morales for picking up two yellow cards and then FC Dallas winger Atiba Harris for elbowing Will Johnson.

In the first leg of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Saturday night, the visiting New York Red Bulls won, 1-0, at San Jose on Joel Lindpere's second-half goal.
