Cameroon and Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o has edged out Didier Drogba and Asamoah Gyan to win the African Player of the Year Award as voted upon by the national team coaches of the Confederation of African Nations members.
Eto'o, 29, was named the winner at an award ceremony Monday in Cairo. He becomes the only four-time honoree, passing three-time winners Abedi Pele (Ghana) and George Weah (Liberia). Last season he scored 16 goals as Inter Milan won the Serie A title and European Champions League, and also represented his country at the World Cup.
Other award winners included former Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac as top coach and World Club Cup finalist TP Mazembe as top club.
