Frustrating afternoon for Eddie Johnson

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Of the four U.S. internationals who moved on loan last week, only Eddie Johnson played, and he endured a frustrating afternoon for his new club.

Johnson started and played the entire game for Preston North End, last in the English League Championship, in its 4-0 loss at home to Bristol City.

He started in Preston's three-man attack, had a good chance early that went over the bar and set up Nathan Ellington for another chance. But Preston fell behind, 1-0, at the half and collapsed after halftime.

"The front three caused them a lot of problems ... but having played as well as we did in the first half to find ourselves 1-0 down at the break was unusual," said Preston manager Phil Brown. "We were worthy to be 3-1 or 4-1 up but we came out and gave a soft performance in the second half."

Michael Bradley (Aston Villa), Jozy Altidore (Bursaspor) and Freddy Adu (Rizespor) did not play this weekend.
