Carlos Noe Gomez, the 32-year-old vice president of Guatemalan First Division club Deportivo Xinabajul, was shot to death Friday night by unidentified gunmen a month after he complained about receiving death threats related to the squad's poor performance.
Gomez was leaving a team meeting in the northern province of Huehuetenango when two gunmen approached him and shot him nine times.
Deportivo Xinabajul was last with six points following its 2-0 loss to Suchitepequez on Wednesday. The Lions went ahead and played Saturday and won, 1-0, at home over Heredia Jaguares.
