Sounders headed to (Beach Soccer) World Cup

The Seattle Sounders are headed to the World Cup -- the inaugural Beach Soccer Club World Cup March 20-27 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Seattle technical director Chris Henderson is a former beach soccer player -- he played in the 1995 Beach World Cup -- and will be a part of the delegation headed to tournament, which will also include Corinthians, Flamengo, Vasco da Gama, Barcelona, AC Milan, Boca Juniors, Sporting Lisbon and Lokomotiv Moscow. The Sounders squad will include U.S. beach soccer stars Zak Ibsen and Yuri Morales.

"This represents an opportunity for Sounders FC in a globally recognized championship competition supported by other world renowned club brands such as AC Milan, FC Barcelona and Boca Juniors, among others," said general manager Adrian Hanauer in a news release.
