[AMERICANS ABROAD] Maurice Edu started for Scottish club Rangers Thursday in its 0-0 tie at PSV in the first leg of their round-of-16 series in the Europa League.

It was an impressive result for Rangers, given the long list of players unavailable for the game.

Bosnian Nikica Jelavic was ineligible because he played in the competition earlier in the season for Rapid Vienna, while Steven Naismith, Lee McCulloch, Sasa Papac and Kirk Broadfoot are all injured.

Backup Neil Alexander got the start in goal in place of Allan McGregor.

Oguchi Onyewu didn't play for FC Twente in its 3-0 win over Russia's Zenit St. Petersburg.
