Last month, 21-year-old Callum Williams was working as a freelance announcer and interviewer for games in England's minor leagues when he got the idea to send a sample of his work to Rob Thomson, Sporting Kansas City’s vice president of communications.

On Saturday, Williams will be SKC's lead announcer and presenter on the KSMO telecast of the MLS opener at Chivas USA.  “Covering Major League Soccer is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Williams said. “I wanted to inject some British passion into MLS — although some of that is already here.”

Williams was asked to do 10 minutes of play-by-play of a few Wizards' games from last season. “Everything we listened to impressed us,” Chris Wyche, the team’s executive vice president of operations, said. “His sound, his knowledge, his excitement level; he was really committed to doing what he’s doing.”
